The government of Guinea Bissau with the technical and financial support of the World Bank is implementing the Project to Strengthen Regional Disease Surveillance Systems in West Africa (REDISSE) and the Project to Strengthen Maternal Health Services
and Infant (PSMI).
The REDISSE project, which is sub-regional, is a form of response to concerns about building the capacity of countries to respond to various public health emergencies. The MCH project aims to contribute to the reduction of maternal and infant mortality by strengthening the essential functions of the health system in Guinea Bissau. In addition to these projects; the World Bank, through the COVID-19 Vaccines Project, is also supporting Guinea Bissau in its response efforts to the COVID-19 pandemic by purchasing COVID-19 vaccines, preparing the vaccination system for the deployment of the COVID-19 vaccine and supporting the distribution of these vaccines.
The Project Coordination Unit (PCU) is the body set up by the Ministry of Health of Guinea Bissau to ensure the implementation of projects with implementing partners while ensuring monitoring and evaluation, accountability as well as project visibility.
